Social science is a major category of academic disciplines, concerned with society and the relationships among individuals within a society. Social science basically gives knowledge about the world, nation and society around us through the help of other disciplines. Economics, political science, history, law and geography can be considered as social sciences. Social studies help students think critically and to use what they know to be active citizens.
The primary purpose of social studies is to help young people develop the ability to make reasonable decisions for the public as citizens of a culturally diverse and democratic society in an interdependent world.
In our school, Social Science teachers help Students to learn skills through social studies that help them succeed in further education as well as life. Here are all the amazing ways learning social studies benefits students and society together:
1.Better Reading And Learning- Social studies is one area in education where content integration is key. Students are given reading material that corresponds with the current learning topics. Giving reading materials in context helps students become better readers. They also become better learners because they are asked to use analysis, critical thinking, and writing to show understanding.
2. Citizen Responsibilities And Values- How can we expect young people to contribute positively to society, engage in discourse, and thrive in a democratic society if they are not exposed to the topics and aspects of history and life that made society the way it is? Students need an understanding of history, political science, culture, and all humanities to be able to understand why it is important to be a good citizen
3. Cultural Understanding- Students should be exposed to cultures far beyond what they experience personally every day. 4. Economic Education- Economics is a crucial part of social studies, whether studied on its own, or as a part of history, anthropology, or political science. By learning economics, Learners understand how their financial decisions have an impact on their future, as well as the future of society.
5. Critical Thinking- Critical thinking is a part of social studies — students are taught to evaluate others’ decisions and make connections between influences and circumstances. Students get the opportunity to learn from others’ mistakes through social sciences.
6. Real World Understanding- Studying social sciences gives students an understanding of the real world around them. Students learn about places, cultures, and events around the world, what conspired to make them the way they are, and can make inferences about how the rest of the world works.

In our School , A number of activities like., debate compitetion ,Speech, Role play, Important days, Educational trip are organised for students by Social Science department. Social Science Activities week are proved an informative and educative week which helps the students to enjoy their Social Science sessions with intent and vigour and took them one step out and ahead of the books.
The enthusiasm, devotion, and passion with which the students are engrossed themselves in the activities reflected that they are the true torchbearers to understand and realise that nothing is impossible to willing mind. The success of week marked to show how Social Studies can help in raising the awareness of students about issues related to their daily lives as well as the vast diversity of the world.
Environment plays a great role in imparting education .The atmosphere of social studies laboratory will help the students on the subject more .So the special room will affect the child psychologically and inspire him/her to study the subject more attentively
In our school we have models, samples, sketches, maps, globes and several pictures related to History, Geography and Civics topics. If the teacher moves all this material from one place to other it causes much inconvenience and it may get damaged in the process. More over the laboratory is well ventilated and well lit.We have models and samples of different types of rocks and minerals, solar system, globes, physical features of India, tectonic movements, volcanic eruption,the course of a river ,physical ,political and cultural maps of India and the World etc. In History we have projects and models on Mughal empire, Models on harappan civilization
